For our November meeting, Nels Christianson presented on The Drought Tolerant Garden: Gardening With Succulents, featuring varieties of succulents in local gardens as well as gardens beyond California.
His talk focused on how to plant a drought tolerant garden using succulents that have recently become so popular.
Nels is an active member of several local Bromeliad Societies and Cactus and Succulent groups in the Los Angeles area and is the Editor of “Dry Times,” the monthly Sunset Succulent Society Newsletter. He is president-elect of the Westchester Chapter of the American Begonia Society. He currently grows more than 500 cacti, succulents, not to mention also Bromeliads.
Nels often remarks that “Hobby” is his middle name! In addition to being an avid gardener, Nels is also a ceramic artist. In fact, many of the succulent plants that he grows are growing in his own pots.
Our Sharing table was overflowing this month, with lots of succulents brought in for sharing. Everyone went home with something.
