For our February meeting, Camille Van Ast will present “The Art of Flower Arranging.” She will talk about Ikebana plus other forms of flower arrangement.
Camille is from the Conejo Valley Garden Club. She has judged many flower shows and is an expert on Japanese flower arrangements called Ikebana. This art of arranging flowers, making flowers come alive is a Japanese art form that dates back to the 7th century.
Camille has been arranging and teaching floral arrangement classes for over 25 years. She is currently a member of the Judge’s Council, The Conejo Valley Garden Club. Camille has been a flower show judge since 1976. Her specialty is Ikebana and she has earned a degree from Sogentsu Floral Arranging School in 1991. She currently teaches Ikebana at the Conejo Valley Botanical Gardens in Thousand Oaks and at Santa Monica College. Camille was a Chemist at Hughes Aircraft Company in Malibu for 25 years before retiring and pursuing her love of flower arranging.
